As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the activities of the City Boy Movement raise an important question: Is this organisation genuinely working to advance the interests of the All Progressives Congress (APC)?
On paper, there is little ambiguity about its political allegiance. It is a nationwide Nigerian political and youth advocacy organization to advance the re-election campaign of Pres. Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. But the activities of this group on the ground speaks otherwise. This is obviously never leadership by example and it must be put out there, whether they would like it or not. I feel that this alleged blatant misuse of resources could actually pull down the President’s re-election mandate.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress accused the movement’s supporters of displaying excessive luxury, including private-jet travel, at a time when many young Nigerians are struggling economically. Further, the presentation of seven brand-new Toyota Prado SUVs by APC National Youth Leader Dayo Israel, reportedly valued at over NGN 1 billion sparked questions about the source of funding. These are controversies that deserve explanations not brickbats.
Like I always say most Nigerians do not hate corruption, they just hate the fact that they are not the ones benefiting from corruption. If running an electioneering mobilization support is like this, would this youth do any better if they eventually lay their hands on leadership?
