The Alamus are not going to leave the news anytime soon. I esteem them as the famous educated family who were involved in the recent Oyo abduction of over 46 pupils and teachers. The wife is the principal who became the forced spokesperson for the abductees, while the husband is a Professor of Forestry Management in my alma mater, LAUTECH. A well-read family and you can feel it whether they are speaking either in English or Yoruba.
Back to earlier in the day, I watched the testimony of the couple in the church they attended on YouTube and I cannot but be awed about the Mercy of God over that family, the other rescued victims, and this country as a whole. May the Lord rest the souls of those lost in the saga, and care tremendously for their families.
One thing, among many, struck me as the Prof shared his testimony. He stated that his family was caught in the fire on two ends – his wife in the forest and him at home, so touching. He went further to cite how his ‘man-up, don’t cry, macho’ strength that us, men, have been fed by culture wobbled and fumbled, a lá a certain Nigerian Flying Eagles team, in the face of that subsuming storm, and how he had to block the abductors from contacting him at the height of the pressure that was almost killing him.
He urged men to have a strong conviction and firm stance about their conjugal relationship, commitment to church, and their faith in God, hinting that those factors kept him and his wife going, though miles apart.
What a family. What a story.
