The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has assured residents of Kwara State and Nigerians that security agencies are determined to reclaim communities currently threatened by terrorists and other criminal elements.
The IGP gave the assurance on Monday during an operational visit to the Nigeria Police Force Command in Ilorin, where he met with key stakeholders to review security strategies aimed at addressing emerging threats in the state.
Disu explained that the visit was part of efforts to engage critical stakeholders and assess ongoing security measures to strengthen the fight against insecurity.
He called on members of the public to cooperate with security agencies, stressing that collective action remains essential to tackling security challenges across the country.
“I am in Kwara to meet stakeholders and discuss ways to tackle terrorists tormenting our people. Criminals cannot drive us from our communities. We are determined to take back our communities from terrorists,” he said.
The Police chief also acknowledged the efforts of residents and security personnel in maintaining peace in the state, noting that collaboration between communities and security agencies would be sustained to defeat criminal elements.
“I know Kwara and the efforts you have been making. We will continue working together to ensure these criminals are defeated,” he added.
Disu further assured that the welfare of police officers would remain a top priority under his leadership, adding that additional security operations would be launched to restore public confidence and maintain Kwara’s reputation as one of the peaceful states in the country.
The IGP also cautioned against profiling cattle rearers, noting that not all Fulani herders should be regarded as criminals, and urged residents to avoid actions that could deepen ethnic tensions.
He encouraged the public to promptly report suspicious movements or credible intelligence to security agencies to enable swift response.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adekimi Ojo, commended the Inspector-General for choosing Kwara for his first operational visit after assuming office.
“We are grateful the I-G chose Kwara for his first operational visit. We will continue to cooperate.”
