As we celebrate the 18th anniversary of SAMI, the health nonprofit I work with, I am excited at the quantum of work that we have done but I am also amazed at the quantum of work that lies ahead. Officially, I have served with SAMI 8 of those 18 and I can assure you that we have done some massive work in those years, both in Advocacy/education and management/support. I wrote a column to that effect here
In the flurry of the celebration, we had to critically analyze an emergency support solution, its expected successes and bottlenecks, and its suitability in our clime. What we have observed is that, sometimes, it is not that some propositions cannot or do not work, but are they contextualized for our own unique experiences and situations?
We will keep working to bring creative, sustainable solutions to the sickle cell community and the healthcare sector in Nigeria.
