One of my in-laws told me recently that he spent half of a million Naira (500K) on fueling his car (a Toyota corolla that is very fuel conservative o) in the month of August alone. In the same vein, I overheard a woman telling her prayer partners during a virtual meeting that she had also spent 500K on car fuel alone, talk less of what she expended on her generators, last month. She wondered, “How many people can afford that, monthly? How many people earn that, monthly?”
To our collective national shame, we should be thankful to Brother Aliko Dangote and his refinery, else, things would have been far worse. Our fuel pricing problem is neither because of Tinubu’s “Subsidy is gone!” announcement of 3 years ago, nor the challenges in the Strait of Hormuz (abi, na Strait of Ignoramus)
O no! Our fuel palaver is because of our FOUR REFINERIES that our demon-possessed leaders deliberately ran aground over the past 40 years. And, because some of you reading this were fairly comfortable, and possibly benefited from the corruption, you looked away from that anomaly and cared less! Now, nemesis is upon everyone, sadly!
