It’s independence Day in Nigeria, and my people turned up for the country. Young, old, male, female, the number of persons who turned out in a green-themed dress, including me, on my way out today slightly edged those who didn’t.
That’s instructive. It meant intentionality. People intentionally decided to wear something to celebrate themselves and the country, in a contrary shift away from what some bookmakers would say there is nothing to celebrate.
Am I concluding that Nigerians are happy with the state of affairs, absolutely not. However, they have continued to stay the course with their staunch love and belief that this country will work. I believe so too. I wouldn’t feel more Nigerian anywhere else apart from this 923,768sq.km. land mass.
This is why I declare: may Nigeria live. May Nigeria thrive. May Nigeria work for the majority of her citizenry in my lifetime! Amen.Happy 66th independence Day, Nigeria.
