For the first time in the history of women’s football in Nigeria, the straw has finally broken the camel’s back. Africa’s most successful team, Super Falcons, that has won 10 WAFCON trophies and have represented Africa in all FIFA Women’s World Cup since the inception of the game in 1991 has finally ended its reign…well, maybe momentarily if we will press reset.
Nigeria crashed out of the quarter finals of WAFCON 2026 – for the first time ever. Nigeria won’t be at FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil 2027 – for the first time ever. This is the worst ever for the country’s football especially in the women’s game. We don’t need to dwell there, however, Super Falcons can still soar again.
This team has given and keeps giving, but it’s time to press restart by the team, the NFF, and Nigeria as a whole. The rest of Africa is catching up. Super Falcons can still soar again.
It’s time to rebuild from scratch!
