For his enduring contributions to security and public safety in Lagos State, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, has been appointed as a member of the newly constituted Civilian Oversight Board for the Lagos State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

The appointment, conveyed in an official letter signed by DCP Khan Salihu, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tjani Olayiwola Fatai, forms part of the ongoing reform initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at repositioning the Nigeria Police Force for greater professionalism, transparency and public trust.

According to the Command, Dr Ogunsan’s appointment is expected to strengthen accountability, community participation, strategic engagement, and credible civilian oversight of operations of the new policing unit across Lagos State.

The appointment letter indicated that the move “comes as part of the ongoing reforms of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at repositioning the Nigeria Police Force.”

The Command noted that Dr Ogunsan’s appointment “is expected to strengthen transparency, accountability and public trust in policing through credible civilian oversight.”

The Police further praised the LSSTF boss for his track record in security advocacy and development, stating that “your distinguished contributions to security initiatives and public safety development makes you a valuable addition to the Board.”

The letter added that his “experience and insight in security will contribute immensely to enhanced oversight, accountability and strategic engagement between the Police and the public,” expressing confidence that his participation “will significantly strengthen the Board’s mandate and impact.”

A respected security strategist and corporate leader, Dr Ogunsan has played pivotal roles in advancing community policing and security partnerships in Lagos over the years.

He previously served as Patron of the Lagos State Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and also chaired the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), where he championed youth advocacy, crime prevention and citizen participation in security governance.

Under his leadership, the LSSTF has remained a critical support institution for security agencies in Lagos, providing logistics, operational support and strategic interventions that have significantly boosted crime-fighting capacity in the state.
