In 1969, Glorianne Gibbs asked her husband, attorney David Gibbs Jr., “Do you suppose the Lord could use you as an attorney for His work?” When he replied that he didn’t think GOD even liked lawyers, she followed up by asking, “Could you at least help pastors and churches without charging them, and that could be a ministry we could do?” That conversation marked the beginning of the Christian Law Association – an organization that her husband founded to offer free legal assistance to Bible-believing churches and Christians experiencing legal difficulties.
Dr. Gibbs was born August 22, 1944, in Alabama. He grew up on a farm in rural Ohio with godly Christian parents. As a young boy, Dr. Gibbs trusted CHRIST as his Saviour. After graduating from high school, he pursued a career in law. As a young lawyer, Dr. Gibbs was asked by a pastor to defend his ministry that was being sued by the state. That was just few days after his wife asked him to serve the LORD with his law practice. Through this case, Dr. Gibbs sensed the Lord calling him into a unique and desperately needed ministry of free legal helps for churches in America. The Lord has greatly used this ministry, and over the past 56 years, the Christian Law Association has served hundreds of thousands of churches and Christians.
Since 1969, CLA has been providing free legal assistance to Bible-believing churches and Christians who are experiencing difficulty in practicing their religious faith because of governmental regulation, intrusion, or prohibition in one form or another. CLA receives in excess of 100,000 phone calls annually, not counting the thousands of correspondence from those who are in some way facing legal difficulties for doing what the Bible commands.
These cases involve Christians arrested for witnessing to others in public, public school students being told they do not have the right to read their Bibles at school, churches being excluded from communities, Christians being fired for sharing their faith at work, and thousands of other shocking assaults on our precious religious freedoms. CLA provides free legal services based in part on the generosity of GOD’S People.
The Christian Law Association exists to preserve Christian liberty for your children and grandchildren. The entire USA, and the Christian world, owe Dr. Gibbs and his loyal wife a great debt of gratitude for preserving our Christian freedoms. And, where are the Christian lawyers in Nigeria?
