I just finished watching a game of the Roshn Saudi League with my brothers. The game featured Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq, the team playing home at the Dammam stadium.
While we watched, I was telling my brothers about the massive 4-goal comeback victory completed by Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at the 1989 FIFA U-20 World Cup against the defunct USSR (Soviet Union). The Flying Eagles were four goals down in the match but gradually clawed back into the game to eventually win the quarter-final match.
The team went ahead to win the semis against the United States 2–1. They eventually lost the final match against Portugal two goals to nil, but have made a name for themselves with what is now known in Nigerian football history as the ‘Miracle of Dammam’ (video here)
While we discussed that match, Al-Nassr was down by two goals after their goalkeeper earned a red card. By the close of second half, however, they gradually recovered and eventually won the match 3goals to 2. This victory, for me, makes another Miracle of Dammam.
