The Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Government of Switzerland have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence collaboration, with emphasis on non-kinetic approaches to addressing security challenges.
The commitment was made when the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Patrick Felix Egloff, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Egloff reiterated Switzerland’s readiness to deepen diplomatic and defence cooperation with Nigeria, noting that his country is particularly interested in supporting non-kinetic initiatives such as humanitarian engagement, peacebuilding efforts and programmes that promote sustainable peace and stability.
He emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between both countries, especially in addressing the root causes of insecurity through dialogue, development support and strong institutional partnerships.
In his response, the CDS welcomed the Swiss envoy and expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s continued interest in Nigeria’s security and stability. He acknowledged Switzerland’s contributions to non-kinetic interventions in the country and stressed that such partnerships are critical in complementing ongoing military operations.
General Oluyede further expressed optimism that the existing relationship between Nigeria and Switzerland would be strengthened, leading to more impactful outcomes in areas of mutual interest, particularly in peacebuilding and strategic cooperation.
According to a statement issued by the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the meeting underscored the importance both nations attach to constructive engagement and collaborative approaches to security.
