At the 8th Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Women Conference held Monday at the POWA Hall, Lagos State Command, keynote speaker Dr. Ajoke Olufunmilola Ogunsan issued a compelling call for Nigerian mothers and community leaders to take up the urgent task of shaping morally grounded children in what she described as an increasingly dark world.

At the event, the business leader, Dr. Mrs. Ogunsan also bagged a special PCRC award of excellence for her giant contributions towards youth development and humanitarian gestures.

Other personalities awarded at the ceremony include Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, Dame Adesola Adeputu, Mrs. Obembe Alice Abayomi, wife of the Lagos CP, Mrs. Risqat Oluwatoyin Jimoh, Olori Oba Dr. Bernitha Agbo, Rtn Bankole Akibu, Comrade Oluomo Jamiu Talabi, Chief Suleiman Adegboyega Ogidi, Prince Taiwo Oyeniyi, Prof. Ambrose Sina Musa, Rev. Dr Mrs. Helen Animashaun, Alhaji Aileru Oluwadare Saliu, Chief Osideinde Kazeem, Hon. Ademola Adesina, ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem, and Pastor Bimbo Ogunbiyi.

Addressing an audience that included dignitaries from the PCRC national committee and the Lagos chapter, senior Police officers in the Lagos State Police Command, top Police women, members of the PCRC Women Committee, members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), and women from other sections of society, Dr. Ogunsan emphasized that the task of raising value-driven children has never been more critical. “We live in an age where darkness, moral darkness, spiritual blindness, and the erosion of truth is being celebrated,” she declared. “The problem is not the presence of darkness; it is the absence of light-bearers.”

She stressed that modern influences such as social media, moral relativism, and declining family values have reshaped the environment in which children grow. This, she noted, places a sacred responsibility on parents, especially mothers to model the integrity, faith, and discipline they expect from their children. “Raising children of light begins with being light ourselves,” she said. “Children learn more from what they observe than from what they are told.”

Dr. Ogunsan urged families not to outsource parenting to digital platforms or peer culture. She called for homes to be reclaimed as “sanctuaries of values where truth is taught, discipline upheld, and love expressed.”

She further encouraged mothers to invest time in conversation, mentorship, accountability, and prayer as tools for nurturing emotionally stable and morally resilient young people. “Let us be the Deborahs of our time, discerning, decisive, and determined.”

The Chairman of PCRC in Lagos, Apostle Kehinde Showemimo in his goodwill message appreciated the PCRC National Chairman, Alh. Mogaji, all the invited guests, and everyone that made the program a success citing that the idea of the women conference started ‘during the Endsars protest when we saw how things were going bad, we invited mothers from churches, mosques, everywhere to see how we can talk and stop the menace. We had the discussions and we had the impact. That’s how we are also here.’

The PCRC Women Coordinator in Lagos, Dr. Mrs. Helen Animashaun noted that the 8th conference is a ‘dialogue on how we can move together to see how the country can grow’ while she lamented the loss of a member of the organizing committee, Mrs. Adeleke whom she also requested to be honored with a one-minute silence.

Mrs. Oluwatoyin Risqat Jimoh, the wife of Lagos CP, CP Olohundare Jimoh was represented by Mrs. Aminat Yusuf. She appreciated the PCRC ‘for a job well done in helping the Nigeria Police and keeping the community safe.’

She also expressed her gratitude to her husband, CP Olohundare Jimoh and all the officers and men of the Nigeria Police in Lagos State Police Command for their great efforts at keeping Lagos safe and secured.

A special presentation was also delivered by the A/C Gender, Lagos State Police Command, ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem. She spoke on security awareness and practical training which centered on how parents can work with their children in an harmonious atmosphere to mitigate security risks.

The conference ended with renewed commitment among participants to champion value-driven parenting across homes and communities in Lagos and beyond.
