GENE EDITING RAISES HOPE FOR HIV CURE

Scientists successfully eliminate HIV from infected cells through the CRISPR gene editing techniques, TheMediaGood Newspaper can report. With CRISPR acting like a scissors, the scientists were able to cut DNA to remove or deactivate harmful sections.

Presenting their initial findings at a medical conference, the team from University of Amsterdam emphasized that their work is still in the early stages and not a cure for HIV yet. Dr. James Dixon from the University of Nottingham added that further investigation is required.

With more research, perhaps gene editing technique could offer high hopes to totally eradicate HIV. Meanwhile, the current treatment options for people living with HIV is to suppress the viral load in the body.
