Just as I planned to write about my roots today, Nigerian women in sports are at it again. D’Tigress iyeeeeee!
Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress today clinched its 7th Afrobasket trophy. This victory also doubles as the 5th in a row for the team, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2025 with the previous 2 in 2003 and 2005.
To add, this team has an impressive unbeaten record. The team has not lost a match in the African continental competition since October 2015. That equals a whopping 29 games tally.
Fast fact – the coach of the team, Rena Wakama is the only female coach to have won the Afrobasket trophy, and that two times.
