You know, as we left the church for the burial ground to inter our sister’s corpse yesterday, we talked about life, her last moments on earth, and what our FOCUS should be, as Christians.
These discussions were ongoing as we rode in the church bus. In front of Premier Hotel, we saw a broken down (privately owned) bullion van right in the middle of the road, and one of us exclaimed, “Hmmm! APC!” That elicited laughter from all of us. Even in our heavy heartedness, we could still LAUGH!
Truth is, no matter what happens, LIFE must go on!When we got to the cemetery, and the machine that was to be used to lower the casket into the grave refused to work, I thought to myself, “Hmmm! APC!” Of course, that made me giggle, and smile
Through it all, we MUST FIND A REASON TO LAUGH and AMUSE OURSELVES. Even the younger sister of the deceased said some funny things about her sister that made us laugh a bit during the church service. At a point, while she tried to compose herself and locate her speech on her phone, she said, “I won’t continue if you all don’t smile o!”
When my mother died at 64, in April of 2009, I couldn’t even cry. It wasn’t until many hours later, while relaying the sad news to my wife that I broke down and wept. Now, you’ll have to remind me that ‘I once had a mother’, despite the fact that I was the closest to her in the family. Life just MUST continue!
If anyone had told us that the world wouldn’t grind to a halt if someone like Michael Jackson or Nelson Mandela died, we probably wouldn’t have believed it. But, here we are without those two legendary icons, and the world hasn’t collapsed.
So, beyond fame and fortune, the TRUEST LEGACY we’ll ever have/leave behind is our GOOD WORK – THE LIVES WE TRANSFORMED AND BROUGHT LASTING JOY TO. That’s what drives me, and nothing else! What are you living for?!
Selah!
