In the twin block of apartments I stay in Lagos, there are close to 20 cars within the premises. There are two guys who man the gate, and they often wash the cars (at least 10 of those) every morning before the owners would drive out. However, they charge N500 per car (that’s what they take from me now. It was N300 before the ‘Tinubu economy’). That’s 5K for washing cars, daily. In a month, that comes to 150K, and I’m sure their salary is likely to be around 50K, or more. Dividing 150K between the two of them comes to 75K each. That means they likely earn more washing cars than they do opening the gate – their formal job. Even if you have a job, add WORK to it!
I heard the story of a carpark security personnel in a hotel who washes the cars of guests over the night, and gets tipped by the usually pleased guests when checking out. He makes a lot of money daily, so much so that when he was promoted to an inside job, he tearfully declined. Apart from his security job, he had added WORK. Do you have WORK, or all you have is a job? For me, my WORK is ISAIAH 50:4&5, and it finds expression in my writing, training and preaching, whatever job I may have per time. My WORK, over the years, has always sustained me till successive jobs came along. I love my WORK.
Proverbs 21:5 says, “The plans (thoughts and WORKS) of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.” This year, WORK diligently, stay in FAITH, remain focused on the WORD of GOD, and refuse to be distracted by anything. Then, you’ll have advancement, peace of mind, promotions and fulfillment, irrespective of the harsh economy.
Have a fruitful day.
