The Nigeria Bankers’ Committee has completed the revamping of the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The iconic structure was originally built in 1976 for the celebration of the 2nd edition of World Black and African Festival of African Arts and Culture (FESTAC) which held in Nigeria in 1977.
TheMediaGood Newspaper reports that the revamping process was commenced in July 2021 under an initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The renovation work covered the 4,000-seat Main Auditorium, the 3,000-seat Banquet Hall, Roof, 2 Exhibition Halls; 3 Cinemas; VIP Lounges; Actors’ Dressing Rooms—Clinic; Fire Station—3 Entrance Gatehouses; and 4 Entrance Lobbies. Also built were a New Car Park for 250 vehicles and a Ring Road.
Likewise new HVAC systems; new Audio, Video & Lighting (AVL) systems; new Stage system; 17 new passenger lifts; solar power system; industrial kitchen; more than 300 new toilets; street lighting; and CCTV cameras were also installed while historic collection of murals on the inside and outside walls were restored.
