Following their record 10-time victory at the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Rabat, Morocco, Pres. Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR made a surprise call to the jubilant senior women’s football team, Super Falcons.
TheMediaGood Newspaper can report that the video call, made in the early hours of Sunday conveyed the palpable excitement which pervades many Nigerian cities after the sweet, defining ‘Mission X’ dream of the team was attained late night of Saturday 26th July.
In the 2-and-a-half minutes long call, the President told the team that ‘the entire nation is very proud of you’ and that by their brilliant performance, they have ‘lifted our spirits and you are a pride to your generation and we are all very happy.’
The President wished them a safe trip back to Nigeria and cannot wait to receive the trophy when it will be officially presented in the Presidential villa, Abuja FCT.
The Super Falcons came from 2 goals down in the first half to win the pulsating encounter 3 goals to 2 against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco. The Nigerian senior women’s football team had previously won the competition in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018.
