Nigeria’s footballing history is bloodied with a litany of ‘strikes’, industry disputes between footballers and administrators over unpaid wages in the middle of competitions across the male and female categories.
I don’t know why Nigerian football administrators always make things difficult?
When a team enters a competition in football, it is compulsory that you go through all 3 games in the preliminary stage, win or lose. Players will get paid for those 3, get the money ready. For a country like Nigeria where we have great expectations and pedigree in football, we always want to go all the way.
In fact, in an interview late 2025 with Segun Odegbami, the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) stated clearly that they had given Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle the KPI to get the team to the final of AFCON.
To put it simply, the NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, is saying what we are going to consider as success at AFCON 2025 is that you get our team to the final. Thus, if you give someone a KPI, shouldn’t it come naturally to you that you must also supply them the necessary support to make them achieve the KPI.
Please don’t bring the narrative that the players have money, yes, they have money. But if you have called them to come, play for the country with a promise to give them something, even if it is 1 naira, let your word bind you to pay them.
It’s okay if you had told them, ‘please players come play for national pride, we are cash strapped’ and they chose to play, that’s quite perfect but if you promised them, by all means fulfill it.
NFF, stop disgracing us!
