Exactly 40 years ago, Sonny Okosuns released the song, “Which Way Nigeria?” – a question the stakeholders have not been able to answer conclusively. Today, I’m asking, “Which Way Nigerian Church?!” And, I hope, it’s one question our spiritual leaders would find a gracious answer to.
Speaking at the UI Power Crusade last Friday, Rev. Isaac Omolehin said, “In 1982, I came visiting my wife in this university. Right in front of your main gate, in those days, were vendors, who would display their papers, put the price tags on them, and leave them there from morning till evening when they would return from their casual jobs in UI, to pick the proceeds for the day.
Today, we announce in church that people should remember to take their valuables with them when coming to the altar or going to the convenience, because of the ‘mixed multitude.’ It would seem to me that the public of 1982 appeared like saints, but the church appears like sinners in 2024. The church of today has gone below the public of 1982.”
He went ahead to address immorality and lasciviousness in the modern church. He told us how Elijah lived with the widow of Zarephath for about three years, and there was no immorality between them, despite the fact that he was unmarred and she was a widow. He also narrated how Joseph was offered free sex daily by Potiphar’s wife, but he remained TRUE to GOD.
But, what do we have in today’s church? All kinds of sexual sins – even such that shouldn’t be found among unbelievers! O Pastors, Apostles, and G.Os, where are you leading GOD’S Church to? O congregations, what are you doing with your Lives: Salvation and Faith? Be revived in church today, in JESUS MIGHTY NAME.
Amen! Selah!
