The Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu expressed his satisfaction with the progress being made towards pre-elimination of malaria in Lagos. He made the assertion yesterday and the midterm review of the impact project which was held yesterday in Lagos.

Present at the event, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, commended the Lagos State Government for its leadership and dedication in the fight against malaria. He assured that the Federal Government will continue to support Lagos State through the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) as the state’s ongoing initiative demonstrated that even the toughest health challenges can be overcome with determination. He thanked all national and international partners for their support, TheMediaGood Newspaper can report.
The Governor speaking, ‘When we launched the Pathway to Malaria Pre-Elimination and Digitisation Programme in March, our goal was clear, to bring malaria cases in Lagos down to less than 1%. Today, at the mid-term review, I am proud to say we are closer than ever to that goal.’
‘We are using technology to deliver real-time reports, improving diagnosis and treatment, and ensuring that private pharmacies and community clinics are fully part of the fight.’
‘With support from partners like the World Bank and the IMPACT project, we are closing the gaps faster. New data from over 40,000 rapid malaria tests shows that fewer people are testing positive.’
Gov. Sanwo-Olu urged all Lagosians to support the government’s drive. ‘This fight against malaria is not for government alone. Every Lagosian has a role to play. If we each do our part, malaria can truly become a thing of the past in our state. Together, we can make Lagos malaria-free.’
It would be recalled that the Lagos State’s ambitious malaria pre-elimination goal was set in March, 2025.
