
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has congratulated players of Nigerian descent who played pivotal roles in the Seattle Seahawks’ triumph over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California, on Sunday 8th February 2026.
The Seahawks defeated the Patriots 29–13 to claim their second Lombardi Trophy, TheMediaGood Newspaper reports.
Key Nigerian-descent contributors included quarterback Jalen Oluwaseun Milroe, defensive standout Nick Emmanwori, veteran linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, linebacker Boye Maye, and offensive lineman Olu Oluwatimi.
The President commended ‘all the players for the pride and honour that they have brought to their country of descent, especially Emmanwori, Nwosu, and Maye, who raised Nigeria’s flag after winning the Super Bowl with the Seahawks,’ cited the press release of the President’s Special Adviser (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga.
The President also recognized Michael Onwenu ‘who played for the other side, the New England Patriots, and is regarded as one of the most dominant offensive linemen.’

President Tinubu praised the players for bringing pride and honour to their country of descent, highlighting Emmanwori, Nwosu, and Maye, who proudly raised the Nigerian flag after the victory. He said their achievements further affirm Nigerians’ global reputation for excellence and talent.
‘Such accomplishments inspire the next generation and showcase the impact of Nigerians on the global sports stage,’ the President noted.
He wished all the players continued success and more victories in their careers.
