It is no longer news that the late Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olalekan Balogun recently joined his ancestors
The Royal described as ‘Peaceful, listening’ by BBC passed 2years, 3days after ascent to the throne.
Interestingly, this demise would have left an hiatus in many #Yoruba cities. But Ibadan, the home of Oluyole is different!
The Ibadan throne is unarguably the most rancour-free in Yorubaland. One good turn requires no argument. From the time one Olubadan assumes the throne, the next person is already known – no arguments. This is due to the entrenched monarchical system which was developed in the cultural city since eons.
There are two lines by which a male can become a king in Ibadan. This is the civil line and the military line in a stepwise manner. The male would also have grown through the family ranks to enter the 2 lines.
The new Olubadan of Ibadan is Oba Olalekan Olakulehin!
Kudos to the pacesetter founding fathers of Ibadan for this ingenious style!
