From former CG Caroline Wuraola Adepoju to new CG Kemi Nanna Nandap, and hopefully more to come, a silent revolution, a very good one, has started in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
The Service is probably the first paramilitary agency in Nigeria to pass its baton of leadership from one woman to another. Previously, it had also produced 2 female CGs namely, late CGI Uzoamaka Nwizu and CGI Rosemary Chinyere Uzoma (retd.)
TheMediaGood Newspaper can predict that this trend may likely continue at least once more. This is because as at the time of the last but one Comptroller-General, CG Isah Jere Idris, the agency paraded some women who are on the top cadre in the Nigeria Immigration Service. 2 of those have become CGs now. If any of those other top-ranked women have some service years on her side, the country may fancy getting another female CG to succeed CG Kemi Nandap in the Immigration.
Whether or not it happens as predicted, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the agency saddled ‘with the responsibility of migration management in Nigeria’ has done very well for the advocacy of affirmative action in Nigeria. It is hoped that these women will discharge upright and credible performance. This will bring a huge boost for affirmative action in Nigeria.
The result from 2023 when CG Caroline Adepoju assumed office to when Kemi Nandap ends, and perhaps if she gets another woman successor will provide a vital tool to continue to champion advocacy for women in administration and governance in Nigeria.
Happy International Women’s Day.
