President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to addressing climate change while ensuring energy security during a recent meeting with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London. The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, centered on potential areas of collaboration ahead of the upcoming COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa. Both leaders discussed aligning their efforts to combat climate change while strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
President Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to implement global sustainability strategies in line with the country’s developmental goals. He highlighted the importance of balancing climate action with energy security to meet the needs of of Nigeria’s growing population and economy.
The dialogue also explored innovative approaches to climate financing, with both leaders expressing a mutual interest in forging stronger partnerships. They highlighted Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa and the Commonwealth, and how this can be leveraged to advance shared environmental and economic objectives.
