Pope Leo XIV to Visit Africa on Ambitious Tour to Drum Global Solidarity for Continent

Pope Leo XIV is set to embark on a landmark apostolic journey across Africa, visiting Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea from April 13 to 23, 2026, in what the Vatican describes as his first major overseas trip of the year.

The 10–11 day tour, spanning more than 17,000 kilometres and multiple cities, underscores Africa’s rising significance within the global Catholic Church, which now counts over 20 percent of its faithful on the continent.

Beyond its pastoral dimension, the visit carries strong geopolitical and social undertones.

In Algeria, the Pope is expected to promote Christian-Muslim dialogue and reflect on the legacy of St. Augustine, while in Cameroon he will engage peace efforts amid separatist violence and insecurity.

His visit to Angola and Equatorial Guinea will spotlight economic inequality, governance challenges, and post-conflict recovery in resource-rich nations still grappling with poverty and human rights concerns

.The tour will feature multiple public addresses and symbolic engagements aimed at encouraging global solidarity with Africa.
