The Nigeria Defence HQ. has announced the giant strides made by the troops in various theatres of operation, TheMediaGood Newspaper can report.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba informed that the troops neutralised 1,166 terrorists, arrested 1,096 suspected terrorists and other criminal elements as well as rescued 721 kidnapped hostages during the month of August 2024. Buba who was speaking on ongoing military operations across the country, noted that troops additionally, recovered 391 weapons, 15,234 ammunitions and denied oil thieves an estimated sum of over N5bn (N5,045,160,010.00) only.

According to him, ongoing operations across the country have significantly diminished the military capabilities of terror groups and denied the terrorist the ability to carry out major offensive, adding that the situation mostly experienced these days are low level skirmishes and attacks on soft targets. He, however, acknowledged that they are dealing with a shrewd, ruthless and brutal enemy, that must be stopped from their acts of terror hence the armed forces is prepared to act with the relevant level of force that would be needed to dismantle the terror groups. Buba disclosed that the military has prioritised targeting terrorist leaders, commanders, foot soldiers as well as their collaborators so as to create conditions whereby they cannot carry out acts of terror or harm citizens. He counted several terrorist leaders and commanders that had been taken off the battlefield as a result of the strategy during the month, saying that troops have significantly dismantled these terror groups in the Northeast, where they are a diminishing but active threat.

Major General Buba also revealed that troops are also intensifying operations in the North West, North Central, South East and South South regions to defeat and dismantle the threats in those areas. He emphasised that the military is on high alert and has increased its readiness to protect the country from further terrorist aggression, while urging citizens to understand that this war is not a quick fix, but a long and enduring military operation. Buba assured citizens that at the end, these terrorists will be destroyed and the nation will be safe and peaceful again notwithstanding the situation now.
