‘Two opposite poles. Nigerians drink religion but Nigeria stinks corruption’ was my reaction to a short piece I read early this morning. The piece noted that from Cairo to Alexandria in Egypt, all you will see are crop farms but from Lagos to Ibadan in Nigeria, you will find places of worship, left, right, and center.
The piece added to my utter dismay that since the mid-1980s when we began to have a meteoric rise in places of worship, only corruption and religion have experienced growth, in fact, they have complemented each other. On the other hand, morality, godliness, holiness, truth, and love have dipped intensely.
I refuse to be despondent. I declare ‘Nigeria, Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations. Amen.’
