A non-profit organisation, Gender Mobile Initiative is set to convene a stakeholders conference aimed at preventing sexual harassment in tertiary institutions on Tuesday 9th July, 2024.
The Executive Director, Omowumi Ogunrotimi made this known in a statement released to TheMediaGood Newspaper on Thursday in Lagos.
Ogunrotimi stated that the conference would bring together education commissioners, development partners, regulators, student groups, and civil society organizations to adopt and implement frameworks for sexual harassment prevention. According to her, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman
will deliver the keynote address.
Gender Mobile Initiative leverages technology to provide resources and support services to victims and survivors of gender-based violence. GMI’s services also include trauma counseling, legal support, psychosocial support, and livelihood assistance.
Highlighting some of the achievements of GMI Ogunrotimi said they developed a comprehensive model anti-sexual harassment policy in collaboration with ICPC, approved by the Federal Ministry of Education for adoption across all tertiary institutions.
‘Supported over 30 tertiary institutions in institutionalizing sexual harassment prohibition policies.’
‘Built capacity for students, faculty, and staff through training and research.’
‘Launched a feature-rich campus app for sexual harassment case reportage, tracking, data generation, and access to resources.’
‘Contributed to national efforts to enact a legal framework criminalizing sexual harassment, including the #DonateaPentoMrPresident campaign.’
