The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) has congratulated AIG Yetunde Longe and AIG Idowu Owohunwa on their new appointments as the Force Secretary and Head of INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Force HQ Abuja. TheMediaGood Newspaper obtained this announcement through a press release yesterday, 28th May 2024 by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The press statement noted that the postings of the duo are with immediate effect and follows the retirement of their predecessors. ‘The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, has approved the posting of two senior police officers to strategic positions within the Nigeria Police Force as part of ongoing efforts to bolster the efficiency of the Force and multinational approach to tackling crimes.’
AIG Yetunde Longe who has attained many firsts in the Nigeria Police Force ‘has been appointed as the Force Secretary. In this capacity, AIG Longe will be responsible for overseeing the secretarial functions of the Force Headquarters, ensuring that policies and directives of the IGP are implemented effectively, as well as coordinate the affairs of senior police officers.’
‘Similarly, AIG Idowu Owohunwa has been assigned to the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja. He is tasked with enhancing international police cooperation and ensuring that Nigeria fulfills its obligations within the global INTERPOL framework.’
Speaking on the development, the President of NAOSNP, Oki Samson congratulated AIG Yetunde Longe whom he noted is now the first-ever female Force Secretary ‘for her momentous progression in the Nigeria Police Force which has seen her become the first Female Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti; first female Area Commander, Area F Ikeja; you are the first female AIG in Charge of Training Department of the Nigeria Police Force.’ He tasked AIG Yetunde Longe to give her best as she oversees secretarial functions at the Force HQ. In the same vein, he congratulated AIG Idowu Owohunwa on his new appointment as the INTERPOL head noting that ‘Owohunwa has over the years proven his mettle in various capacities including as PSO to many IGPs, as Lagos CP, and as AIG of Force CID Annex Alagbon.’
The NAOSNP President used the opportunity to thank IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for using his tenure to empower, support, and promote many female officers. ‘The female police officers has never had it this good. The women of the Nigeria Police are thriving under his administration. IGP Egbetokun is a HeForShe.’
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Egbetokun while commending the two senior police officers, Longe and Owohunwa, for their dedication and service to the Nigeria Police Force, emphasized that their new assignments is a proof of their exceptional abilities and the trust the Force places in their capabilities.
