Nigeria’s most capped international, Ahmed Musa, has announced his retirement from national team football, bringing to an end a remarkable 15-year career in the green and white of Nigeria.
Musa, who made his Super Eagles debut at just 17, leaves the international stage with a record 111 appearances, a feat unmatched in the history of Nigerian football.
In an emotional statement released today Wednesday on his Twitter X handle, the former captain reflected on a journey defined by service, sacrifice and unwavering national pride.
“I wore this badge with pride for 15 years,” Musa said. “From a 17-year-old boy answering every call to becoming the most capped Super Eagle, I gave everything. Thank you Nigeria… my heart will always beat green.”
TheMediaGood Newspaper can report that the Kano-born forward was a key member of the Super Eagles squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and remains Nigeria’s highest goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history, famously netting four goals across the 2014 and 2018 tournaments including the famous brace against Iceland in 2018.
Beyond his goals, Musa’s leadership on and off the pitch earned him respect as a unifying figure within the team, serving as captain during crucial periods.
