President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a modern, professional, accountable police force and undertaking a comprehensive reform of Nigeria’s national security architecture.
He made the pledge as the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, graduated 1,187 cadets, TheMediaGood Newspaper can report.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, President Tinubu described the graduation as a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to strengthen national security through enhanced training and education.
“This milestone is not just a celebration of hard work and dedication, but a testament to the progress we have made in shaping a more secure and prosperous future,” he said.
Tinubu praised the Academy’s growth into a degree-awarding institution and commended its contribution to producing officers equipped to confront Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
He noted that the institution has continued to align with his administration’s vision of building an honest, professional, and human-rights–respecting police force.
Charging the new officers to uphold the core values of integrity, fairness, and discipline, the President reminded them that they are “not just enforcers of the law, but guardians of our collective security and well-being.” He urged them to serve selflessly and sustain public trust as they take up duty across the country.
The President also assured that the Federal Government would continue to support the Police Academy and all security agencies through increased investments in training, resources, and equipment to enhance their operational effectiveness.
“To the families and loved ones of the cadets, your sacrifice and encouragement have shaped these young officers into the professionals we celebrate today,” he added.
In his remarks, the Commandant of the Academy, AIG Patrick Adedeji Atayero, announced that the 1,187 cadets had successfully completed both academic and professional training, earning bachelor’s degrees in various disciplines. He described them as “worthy in character and learning.”
Atayero highlighted the Academy’s transformation since its establishment in 1998 from temporary campuses in Kaduna and Challawa to becoming Nigeria’s foremost police training institution. He revealed that preparations are underway to introduce postgraduate and diploma programmes to further deepen police education.
“We have expanded our programmes, increased our intake, and improved our facilities to meet the demands of modern policing,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by top government officials, including the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Usman Gayan, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, members of the National Assembly, service chiefs, royal fathers, and families of the graduating officers.
The event ended with a ceremonial parade, affirming the cadets’ readiness to join the nation’s security architecture as Nigeria works toward a safer, more just and more prosperous future.
