Amid the escalating tension, the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam has intervened in the dispute between the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force over the rejected recruitment list of 10,000 constables and specialists over allegations of corruption and irregularities. TheMediaGood can report that the controversy began on June 4 when the PSC announced the successful recruitment of 10,000 applicants. However, on June 15, the Police Force rejected this list.

According to the police spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the recruitment process was marred by corruption and irregularities, with names of individuals who “did not even apply” included in the list.

This rejection prompted a sharp response from the PSC’s union, which called for the removal of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, accusing him of misrepresenting facts about the recruitment process.

The PSC has maintained its stance, asserting that the recruitment was conducted transparently and legally. On June 25, PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, stated that the final list of successful candidates would remain unchanged and challenged the police force to provide evidence supporting their corruption allegations.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Police Affairs, Bolaji Kazeem, in a chat with Punch, emphasized the minister’s commitment to resolving the issue discreetly and efficiently, stating, “Minister working underground to resolve the issue between the two organisations. He doesn’t want the matter to go out of hand.”
