I’m not even sure why I’m writing this. I think it’s because I just finished having a beautiful breakfast. So, it’s alright to say, “This is one of his ‘food-inspired’ write-ups.”
The organization I work with, Punch Media Foundation (PMF), is doing something in partnership with the American Corner, and we’re lodged in a lovely hotel in Lekki. I just had the usual complimentary breakfast that comes with staying in most hotels, but, ‘this breakfast no be like other ones wey I don chop before o. Na buffet we chop o! You know wetin buffet be?’ Buffet is food (different kinds/’orisirisi’) laid out on a long table, to which diners serve themselves, otherwise called ‘smorgasbord.’
Walahi, shame no go allow me tell you the kind combination wey I ‘combine’ this morning. The combination don even affect my communication sef. I no even fit write the normal English as I usually do. Na food o, nothing else! And, arriving at the American Corner now, I see written somewhere, “Nothing brings people together like GOOD FOOD!” Now, you see why you shouldn’t crucify me for my ‘Orisirisi combo’ this morning.
Having said that, it’s important to NOTE that LIFE is in STAGES and men/women are in SIZES. Live your size, and stage, per time. Don’t try to live above your means/pay grade, till you’re empowered, economically or spiritually. Imagine me returning to that same hotel (that GOD alone, and the person who made the booking, knows the cost) next week to say ‘I wan lodge here, or I wan buy that kain breakfast there. Na ‘aseju’ that one go be o!’ While I possibly can afford both (and, that would be a big chunk of my monthly salary), it would be financially irresponsible of me to do so at my level, now. I’m not in any ‘class war’ with anyone, and I’ll NEVER try to impress anybody with a pseudo-lifestyle. Stay at your level and enjoy where you are per time.
Live within your means o! A Word is enough for the WISE!
Selah!
