The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will deploy 500 additional personnel to major routes and project corridors in anticipation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s two-day working visit to Lagos State during which he will commission six legacy projects completed by the Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed that the agency had finalised plans to station the additional officers across major highways and critical routes linked to the President’s itinerary. He said the officers would manage vehicular movement and reduce congestion along affected corridors throughout the duration of the visit.
Bakare-Oki noted that the deployment was part of a wider inter-agency traffic management framework designed to ensure the smooth conduct of commissioning ceremonies and limit inconvenience to commuters.
In a related development, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, at a press briefing, disclosed that the deployment was intended to ensure smooth traffic flow, enhance security, and minimise disruption to residents.
Omotoso explained that the deployment was part of coordinated arrangements involving federal and state agencies to guarantee seamless movement and effective logistics during the President’s stay.
“We are working closely with federal and state agencies to ensure that all arrangements for the President’s visit are seamless, secure, and befitting of the occasion,” Omotoso said.
“Security, logistics, and traffic management plans are being carefully coordinated to minimise disruptions to daily activities while ensuring the safety and comfort of all participants,” he added.
At the same press briefing, Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Media and Publicity had described the six projects as “iconic, transformative and legacy projects.”
Also present at Monday’s press briefing were the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya; Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Adekunle Olayinka; Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Femi Daramola; and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will arrive in Lagos on Wednesday for a two-day working visit, during which he will commission six infrastructure projects executed by the Lagos State Government. The press statement from the Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, listed the projects as:
1. The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge
2. The Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LASGIS) building in Alausa
3. The Lagos Multi-Agency Complex, named after the President, also in Alausa
4. The Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle
5. The Maracana Stadium, which includes a 19-mini football pitch
6. The Lagos Food Logistics Hub in Abijo
The 5.04-kilometre Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is expected to ease traffic congestion across the metropolis, while the LASGIS building aims to transform land record management in the state.
The Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle comprises 36 public schools, 31 secondary schools and five primary schools, situated on approximately 11.73 hectares of land in the densely populated Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The statement from Onanuga added that President Tinubu will visit Bayelsa State on April 10 to commission some projects completed by Governor Douye Diri’s administration before returning to Abuja.
