LAPIDOTH 5: DEJI KURUNMI ESQ.

DEJI KURUNMI ESQ.

I began writing a series quite a while ago which I often update when I meet someone who fits that standard. The Lapidoth series, taking its cue from the famous man linked to Deborah in Judges 4:4, is my own personal tribute to men who are standouts in their overwhelming support for their wives. Theirs is so staggering, almost to a fault.

Other tremendous men whom I have featured in that series include Prof. Joachim Sauer, the husband of former Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel; Dr. Iweala, the husband of WTO chief, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Rev. Israel Oludotun Kuti, husband of Nigeria’s legendary precolonial activist, Funmilayo Ransome Kuti; among others.

Over the weekend, I met another Lapidoth in person of the revered Deji Kurunmi Esq., the husband of the phenomenal Debola Deji-Kurunmi. I was so overjoyed as I ran towards him telling him that I have looked forward to the day when I will meet whoever the Deji Kurunmi behind Debola’s name is.

I also told him that his likes are rare among African men and thanked him immensely for his doting love and championing role for the divine ministry that his wife continues to pursue. It pained me that I couldn’t get a picture with him on that day as my phone battery was flat.

Society deems it normal if the man is the one seen to be taking the public lead, but these Lapidoths, for me, are the men taking the public lead. If you can stand in the place of a Lapidoth without feeling insecure, then you are the man!
