The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reviewed its earlier timetable of elections to factor in the Ramadan fast of next year 2027.
TheMediaGood Newspaper reports that this change is due to the intervention of the members of the National Assembly who had observed the intersection of both important practices. They highlighted that the practice of the Muslim 30-day fast might interfere with the full participation of many Nigerians in the electioneering process.
This decision by INEC has drawn varying viewpoints from Nigerians. While some considered it a necessary development, others differ that the country is unnecessarily mixing religion with politics.
