newly-elected President of Guinea
BTW, Who’s Doumbouya?
Mamady Doumbouya is Guinea’s military leader who seized power in a 2021 coup, overthrowing President Alpha Condé. The former French Foreign Legion officer led for 4 years and transited the country successfully to a presidential election late last year on 28th December 2025.
General Doumbouya won the presidential election with about 86.7% of the vote, according to official results which were confirmed by the Supreme Court. His victory at the polls marked a transition from military rule to constitutional democracy, handing him a 7-year tenure as civilian president. He will be inaugurated on 17th January 2026.

Why do I want Doumbouya to prove me wrong?
I see jubilation among the Guineans who live and work in my neighborhood and I can jolly well understand. While Guinea, nay Africa, is hungry for socio-economic and political development, I am also as worried about the ‘sit-tightism’, which has become characteristic of many African leaders, including some who transition from their military khaki to civilian garb.
For Doumbouya, 4+7 makes 11 years…and then, he might seek another term, and another, a là Cameroon’s Biya, Rwanda’s Kagame, Uganda’s Museveni, and late Eyadema of Togo.
God forbid, I want Doumbouya to prove me wrong!
