I met Yomi Oyelami at a training program in October 2023. We were both participants, and happened to have sat at the same table. I looked at his frail physique and knew instantly that this fellow would have awesome stories to tell. Sure enough, his contributions during the program were insightful and on-point. I chose to get closer to him. ‘Emi otelemuye!’
I found out that he works as the Communications Officer for Sickle Cell Advocacy and Management Initiative (SAMI), and he has been a Sickle Cell ‘Warrior’ almost all his life – forever coming out victorious in every battle. In February 2024, we ran the Lagos City marathon together, and we would have done it together again this year but for a church commitment in February. Yomi has been running that marathon for some 6 consecutive years. I respect that guy!
Psalms 144:1 sums up Yomi’s life, and confidence through his many health challenges, “Blessed be the LORD my ROCK, Who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle…”
GOD has equipped him with the skill and STRENGTH to fight, not just in physical warfare but also in spiritual battles against sin, sicknesses and satan. Hallelujah!
Yomi will be sharing his story with us at 11am TODAY. Venue is Mellanby Hall, UI. Don’t miss it!See you there!
