The Nigeria Police Council has confirmed IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu as Nigeria’s 23rd Inspector General of Police during a meeting held today Monday 2nd March at the Presidential Villa. The gathering, chaired by Bola Tinubu, brought together state governors and top government officials to deliberate on national security priorities and policing reforms.
Speaking after the meeting, Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, expressed joy about the confirmation of the ‘Lagos Pride’ IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
He also noted that security remains a central priority for state governments, particularly as the nation continues to strengthen public trust and inter-agency coordination.

“Our discussions focused on stability, coordination, and public trust,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said. “Lagos will continue to work closely with the Police leadership to keep our people safe.”
It would be recalled that the Governor said “Having worked at state, national, and international levels, I am confident that Disu will bring his wealth of experience, garnered over three decades, to bear on his new assignment and meet the expectations of Nigerians for a competent, accountable, transparent, courageous, and trustworthy Police Force.” This was upon the announcement of IGP Disu in acting capacity last week.
The confirmation of Disu, a Lagos-born senior police officer widely regarded for his professionalism and operational experience, is expected to usher in a new phase of strategic policing aimed at improving safety nationwide.
