The reunion of Joseph with his family is perhaps my finest Bible story. Bible stories are not old wives’ tales, they are real stories that happened to real people who lived in an historical era. They are being replicated in this age.
My most important take-home from that particular story is how it reiterated the truth ‘that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.’ (Romans 8:28, NLT)
Young Joseph’s dream didn’t fit the pre-existing mold of the family. The 10 older siblings didn’t know better to grow it, they decided to trample it. They pushed their brother into oblivion for a paltry 20 silver pieces. But God had better plans for Joseph…for God and for good.
By the time they met again, Joseph had become such a remarkable success that he could restore their multiple ‘market money’ silver pieces into their bags. They were shocked and in utter disbelief.
Joseph reinforced them with these stunning, purpose-resonating words, ‘it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.’ (Genesis 45:5b, NIV). His life’s work was to save his family, homeland, Egypt, and probably the-then known world.
Know this!
Your life has a purpose. God is involved in making it work. May your Life count for God and for good!
