In alignment with the new minimum wage approved by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Pres. Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR during this year, the Federal Government has approved an increase in the monthly allowance for corps members. TheMediaGood Newspaper can report that the new monthly pay for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) popularly called ‘allawee’ is now NGN 77,000 as against the previous NGN 33,000 effective from July 2024. This pay raise represents over 100 percent increment.
The statement reads: ‘The Federal Government has approved the increase of Corps Members’ monthly allowance to Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira (N77,000), effective July 2024. This adjustment aligns with the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, as outlined in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.’
The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed expressed his excitement over the development as he had earlier called for a more robust welfare package for Corps Members.
