Since the announcement of the appointment of right winger of the Super Eagles 1994 cohort, Finidi George was made by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last week, Nigerians have been hailing the decision. TheMediaGood Newspaper observed that it is almost a consensus among Nigerians that it is time for an indigenous coach to take up the coaching role of Nigeria’s most celebrated football national team, Super Eagles. They are also full of expectations that the Assistant Coach to former coach, Jose Peseiro will be able to qualify Nigeria for the next FIFA World Cup 2026 and the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.
Other Nigerian ex-internationals are also filing behind Finidi George for success on the job. Some of them are Super Eagles forward of the 1980 cohort, Segun Odegbami (aka Mathematical) and Augustine Eguavoen.
During the week, when the Head of the Technical Department of the NFF, Augustine Eguavoen visited Abeokuta, Ogun state on a FIFA-initiated, powered and funded grassroots talent hunt program for young Nigerian footballers, he noted that Nigerians should give all their support to the new Super Eagles coach, Finidi George.
