I love the way ThePunch cast its frontpage today – Emergency Rule: Rivers: Winners, Losers, as Tinubu reinstates Fubara. The frontpage didn’t let us know what it thinks, but I know some who fall into that category.
One of the prime winners is the Sole Administrator, Ibok Ekwe Ibas who got the rare privilege as a military man to get a civil administrative role in a democracy. How many of the cohort of the former Chief of Naval Staff will ever get an opportunity to have unfettered powers over a state for six months, checkmated perhaps by only the President who appointed him.
Who lost?
The people of Rivers State are chief losers, because their state’s development was on pause for the time. Almost everything was on standstill, save only enforcement of security and peace.
Now that the Governor is back, he would be tactful and tactical so as to allow ‘uneasy calm’ not necessarily for real peace. Let’s see how far that goes.
