Last Friday, I wrote about a dear brother, and friend, S.O., and quite a lot of my readers found that piece very moving. That morning, before leaving his house, I pointed to a rack of shoes in the room where I’d passed the night and said to him, “Sir, your son (whom I know now lives abroad) is not likely to be needing these shoes again. If you would ask him, I’m sure we can get these footwears to some people out there who would really treasure them, instead of allowing them to waste away on this rack.”
Without skipping a beat, S.O. turned round, saying, “Let me get you a nylon!” He returned from his room with a big nylon, and packed seven (7) pairs of shoes for me. Three of those shoes, even in their present state, would still go for between 15K to 40K in the Tokunboh market. That’s the SPIRIT OF GENEROSITY at work. I gave some of the shoes to my shoemaker over the weekend, and it’s costing me 4K to refurbish and repackage them, before giving them out to some needy people out there.
Imagine what the world would be like if we all (especially those of us who call ourselves ‘Christians’) lived like S.O. and D.A. Two Sundays ago, after the service, I opened my boot to give some things to two people. Standing beside her car, behind me, was my leader in the Counseling Ministry – a woman I have deep respect for; she said, “Bro Dele! Always having something to give out sha!” O, that the same would be said of you, and every CHRISTIAN out there, “He/she is ALWAYS HAVING SOMETHING TO GIVE OUT!”
Daily, in all my THINKING, ASPIRATIONS and PURSUITS, I don’t look out for my well-being and family’s alone. NO! I look out, according to Philippians 2:4, FOR THE WELL-BEING OF OTHERS TOO! That Scripture reads, “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Same for 1 Corinthians 10:24, “Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.”
Happy are you if you KNOW and DO these things. Be like S.O. and D.A. Always have something to give out. If there’s anything you have not used for 6 months to a year, it’s obvious you really don’t need it. GIVE IT OUT! Make GIVING a hobby. GIVE! Stop living like the mentally deranged, who is always gathering and hoarding what s/he’ll never need. GIVE IT OUT! GIVING IS LIVING!
Thank you S.O. and S.O. Jnr., for being a BLESSING to others out there. To your one thousandth generation, you will never lack good things to wear, use, and spare, in JESUS MIGHTY NAME.
SHALOM! Let’s all go and do likewise!
