The prepaid meters which used to shine green in times past are now blinking red. Our issue is now no longer ‘NEPA no bring light’ as there is electricity supply almost round the clock. It is now the case of ‘Pay As You Go’ as you now have to part with almost 4 times of your previous cost before April 2024. This is the tale of Band A customers in less than one month of operation.
Virtually every Band A customer is still trying to adjust to the new normal. One, the implementation of the Band classification came almost suddenly. Two, the geometric rise in electricity cost due to the removal of subsidy is another reality to deal with in addition to the fuel subsidy removal last year.
Now, efficient energy use is a must. It is a new normal for a Band A customer to learn. If you share prepaid meter with neighbors, that’s double-work. You have to learn together, else ‘your pocket go hear am’.
Will you laugh or cry as a Band A customer? It all boils down to your perspective of ‘half-full or half-empty glass’. Enjoy the new normal, that’s what I wish you!
