Transitioning into university life can be overwhelming for new students, especially during their first weeks on campus. Many freshmen struggle to understand academic routines, navigate institutional systems, and adjust to the digital platforms used for learning and administration. Key concerns often include how to check examination results online, register courses correctly, access lecture materials, and understand departmental expectations.

In response to these challenges, the Assistant General Secretary of the National Association of Microbiology Students, LASU chapter, Comr. Michelle Ochem is organizing a free webinar as an orientation-style support initiative aimed at easing students into university life.

The virtual session will provide clear, practical guidance on essential academic processes, with a strong focus on helping students navigate the Lagos State University Integrated Data Center (LIDC) platform, used to check results as well as provide helpful tips that would enable the freshmen avoid common early mistakes that could affect their academic progress.

According to the convener, Comr. Ochem, the initiative is designed as ‘a safe and interactive space where freshmen can ask questions freely, gain clarity, and feel more confident about their academic journey.’

‘One of the earliest challenges that students have upon getting into the campus is how to navigate the university portal where you can access examinations results. The portal is commonly called LIDC and that’s what we designed this first free webinar in 2026 to address. More programs will be delivered as the year continues,’ Ochem said.

The webinar themed ‘LIDC 101: Understanding LIDC’ is free and will hold via Google Meet on Thursday 8th January 2026. It will be moderated by Hon. Adelegan Inioluwa who will host two speakers, Hon. Aishat Onifade and Comr. Oluwadotun Samuel. The session will promote peer connection and encourage students to take ownership of their learning from the outset.

Freshmen, irrespective of their course of study, across the institution are strongly encouraged to join and participate in the webinar. The free webinar, with proud sponsorship of Pair Digital, is a demonstration of the LASU Microbiology Students’ Association’s commitment to promoting student-led leadership and academic support.
