In Matthew 5:16, there’s an admonition – a command actually – “Let your LIGHT so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your FATHER in heaven.” Nothing shows forth our LIGHT IN CHRIST like our GOOD WORKS and HUMILITY.
Joel Osteen told the story of a billionaire who owns hotels and oil companies, that just happened to be in the lobby of one of his hotels when a couple walked in, and there was no one at the counter to attend to them. He quickly got behind the counter, checked the couple in, and even carried their luggage to the room, and served them ice. When he turned round to leave, the impressed guest gave him a $5 (dollar) tip. He took it, said thank you, and walked away chuckling to himself. It takes a truly big person to do small things, JOYFULLY.
About 20 years ago, I attended a wedding in Ekiti where Brother Gbile Akanni was the Chairman of the reception. I was pleasantly surprised to see him leave the high table and join the stewards serving food and drinks when they seemed short-staffed. Wow! That’s shining forth the LIGHT with GOOD WORKS of HUMILITY. Very few men, in his class, would stoop that low to do such. But then, that’s what JESUS would do. That’s the HUMILITY/SPIRIT of CHRIST.
Obeying Matthew 5:16 will make Nigeria, and the world, a better place. How are you living out Matthew 5:16? Are you a LIGHT bearer or a worker of iniquities? Is your life, and your works, bringing GLORY to the FATHER? Christianity is not in mouth and confessions alone, but in GOOD WORKS, SACRIFICIAL GIVING and LIVING. Are you doing Matthew 5:16? You should! Every Christian should!
Selah!
