AIG OLATOYE ‘SQUAD FATHER’ DUROSINMI PULLED OUT OF SERVICE WITH JOY, GLORY, AND CELEBRATION; FRIENDS, FAMILY, OTHERS CELEBRATE HIM ON 35 YEARS OF MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO FATHERLAND

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Police Command (comprising Lagos and Ogun), AIG Olatoye Adio Durosinmi has successfully retired out of service to the fatherland in the Nigeria Police. The glorious pulling out parade happened yesterday at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos with a lot of senior police officers and dignitaries from across the country in attendance.

The pull out parade was followed with a colorful party to mark the retired senior officer’s 60th birthday party and retirement reception. It held at the conference hall of Lagos Island club, Onikan, Lagos in the presence of family, friends, fellow Police officers – including retired and serving, journalists, and well-wishers. Some of the dignitaries from all walks of life in attendance including Wife of IGP Egbetokun, DIG Bode Adeleke rtd, Senator Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, among others.

The lanky AIG Olatoye danced to his fullest yesterday. It was never any dull moment with him as he was constantly rising to dance to the vast array of music and riveting beats. He is a lover of good music.

Expressing his gratitude to God for seeing him through the job he joined in 1990, Olatoye Adio Durosinmi said: ‘I give glory to God almighty for been merciful to me from my birth, through my primary, post-primary, tertiary education and through meritorious years of my service to my father land and humanity, the almighty God has reloaded my life with abundant grace which brought forth today’s celebration, I am most grateful to Almighty.’He also thanked people who played instrumental roles in his journey.

‘I will forever be grateful to my first Commissioner of Police who later became the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tafa Balogun MPM, MNI of blessed memory, the inaugural lecture that he gave to us who are posted to Delta state, which was newly created was actually like a lesson that I remember everyday of my life till this morning. It is worthy of note that many are called, applied to become Police officers without success but God showed this path to me. I am especially grateful to my parent, my teachers who directed my paths, to the very senior officers who I have passed through why growing up in the job, to the past Inspector Generals of Police, who have one way or the other identify me among many and shouldered responsibility on me which show case my ability and passion for the job.”I am particularly grateful to my brother and guardian IGP Olukayode Egbetokun PhD, NPM who has for decades exhibited uncommon sagacity, exemplary leadership brought innovation which today redirected the Nigeria Police force in a prosperous path, with the rare expertise, operational efficiency, and outstanding productivity displayed by our dear IGP Egbetokun.”

Let me equally appreciate officers and men of zone 2, headquarters Lagos and Ogun State command for their commitment towards effective policing within the jurisdiction of zone 2, it is important to point out that you have all performed creditably well, in fact if not for the officers this occasion will not take place, as far as I’m concerned I’m please to go even without the ceremony but they insist that I can’t leave the force just like that, I appreciate you, I appreciate your love.’

In his tribute remark at the event, the representative of IGP Kayode Egbetokun and the AIG cooperative said: ‘On the 3rd March 1990, we all started what was formally called squad father, he was squad father of squadron 3 then, along the line when we passed out of college, there was a special bond between us which did not exist in the college, as he was always branching Benin city to see Yemi, Oladimeji and myself. We were so close until we started having different posting here and there, you have heard his daughter, you have heard the sister in law said, that is Durosimi Olatoye himself, as you are getting out of the job may God almighty continue to be with you and guide you. Thank you and God bless you.’

AIG Sikiru Lanre Bankole (retd) noted that AIG Olatoye Durosinmi is his colleague in Course 16 of 1990 said ‘It has been a long journey and we give all the adoration to almighty God that it is coming to a glorious end, it may interest you to know that right from our first day in the academy, AIG Durosimi was marked out for very important assignment, he happens to be one of the squad father, there were four of them, and to be a squad father it entails that a lot of responsibility was been placed on your shoulders. I can tell without any fear of intimidation that Olatoye has discharged the responsibility of a leader throughout his career in the Nigeria Police Force. So today our godfather who has given birth to so many children and I believe so many grand children who are standing out, I have no doubt in my mind that giving his pedigree he’s moving from glory to glory.”I also want to say that Olatoye also has another part of him, which is the legal profession and he has told me in confidence that he’s going to pursue that career until when he attains the silk and I have no doubt that he has all it take to become the Senior Advocate of Nigeria in not to distance future, on this note I want to congratulate you again and to wish you all the very best in you future endeavors.’

AIG Olawale (retd) said that ‘AIG Olatoye retiring today has been a very cordial friend of mine, our relationship dated back to when we first met at the then University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University and when we now met again at the police academy, the bond of friendship grow stronger and ever since we have been relating as twins. While at the academy I was a little bit troublesome not with everybody but with Olatoye Durosinmi. I insisted and I made sure I have a spear key with me, that means I can be with him the way I like, if I don’t want anybody to be with him I’ll just go and occupy his room and he has no other choice than to leave the room for me and same thing with him. I want to say that if you are looking for a sincere friend, look for no other than Olatoye Durosinmi’Prophet Godwin Ikuru said: ‘When you see a man who delivers well in his duty, the wife is one of the pillar and when you see a man that fail,  his wife is also the mistake, now he has deliver his duty, now he is going to look at people he has trained, I believe he has trained a lot of people . I heard a lot about him, I read about him, he’s a man of excellent, he’s a man of true spirit, when you are talking about the police uniform, he has served well and most of you who are here today must emulate his character because it is not easy to serve and to go to that level.’

The daughter of the celebrant, AIG Olatoye Durosinmi said about him, ‘My father has given his last 35 years to the Police Force, I think i have learnt diligence from my dad because he was constantly taking his job, not the regular civil service but constantly 24/7 my father is a police man, I wonder how he’s going to cope when there’s no one calling him and all that.I remember before I was kind of indifferent about what people say about Police I think when my dad was and I was the only child at home and there was a bomb blast and sleeping in the parlor I was waiting for my dad to come home and he came home around like 6am and then put on his uniform and left and then it dawned on me that what if the bomb had exploded when my father was there, what is going to happen to the rest of us and then I saw the importance of the job he was doing and how he was helping to protect other people. Daddy thank you very much, thank you for the fine amazing years, thank you for always loving us, regardless of how busy your schedule is.’

AIG Olatoye Adio Durosinmi, B.Sc, LLB, BL, LLM was born on the August 19, 1964, in Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology/Anthropology from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, LLB (Hons) from Delta State University, Abraka, BL from Nigerian Law School, Abuja, LLM from Lagos State University, Ojo Lagos, and a PhD – in view Imo State University. 

AIG Olatoye Adio Durosinmi was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Course 16 in the year 1990.Upon completion of his training at the Elite Police Academy Kaduna, he was posted to Delta State Police Command in October 1991.In the course of his career he has served in various capacities: while in Delta State, he served in Effurum Division, Asaba Division, Ibusa Division and Ugheli Division. He also served in Zone 5 Headquarters which comprises Edo and Delta States. While in Lagos State, he served as Divisional Police Officer at; Pioneer DPO Layeni Division, Lion Building Division,  Isheri Division.In Kwara State he served as Divisional Police Officer in Ganmo Division, Surulere Division, Kosubodu Divisional, Ilesha Baruba Division. In the year 2013 he was promoted to the rank of the Assistant Commissioner of Police and posted as ACP Operations in Imo State before he was transferred to Akwa Ibom State as Assistant Commissioner in charge of Criminal Investigation Department (CID).He was Area Commander in Akure, and when promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police in the year 2017 he was posted to Kebbi State as the pioneer DCP in charge of State CID, he was DCP FSWAT Force CID Annex, Lagos and subsequently became the CP SWAT upon elevation to the rank of Commissioner of Police.

He was posted to Akwa Ibom State Command as the 31st Commissioner of Police in the state before his recent promotion to the enviable rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police in January 2024 and posted to Head Zone 2 Command comprising Lagos and Ogun States as the 31st Assistant Inspector-General of Police.The AIG in the course of his career has attended several courses both locally and internationally, which includes: Junior Command Course, Police Staff College, Jos, Workshop in Policing system, Gondon Police College, Gwanzon, China 2015, Senior Command Course, Police Staff College, Jos, United Nations Commander Course Carabinieri Advance Institute of Investigation Techniques, Vicenza, Italy, 2018.

The AIG is also a member of several professional bodies such as Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), International Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, International Institute of Private Investigators to mention but a few.AIG Olatoye Durosinmi is a recipient of various local and international awards; he was honoured with the prestigious NAOSNP Award of Excellence as the Most Outstanding Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG In charge of Zone by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP May, 2024.
