Founders of Google
Few days ago, my wife (in Ibadan) called me (in Lagos) to find out what to do with the generator that kept tripping off every time she switched on the pumping machine. I told her there was a screw that needed tightening, somewhere, on the generator. From audio, we switched to video call, as she and my son awaited my instructions on how to locate the screw, and tighten it.
However, it turned out to be an exercise in futility, as the ‘Gen expert’ in faraway Lagos (Moi) couldn’t make head nor tail of the location of the screw, and asked them to ‘believe GOD’ for NEPA to ‘bring light!’
NEPA is the old name (that’ll never be forgotten) for the irresponsible and inefficient power (electricity) holders in Nigeria. Why do we have to ‘believe GOD’ for what NEPA (and other government agencies, privatized or not) are tasked, and paid, to do?! WHY???!!!
About 30 minutes later, the Beauty and Brains that I married, called to inform me that she had consulted Google, and had been instructed on what to do. Long story short, she and my son were able to pump water with the generator. Google ‘saved’ the day. That is someone’s invention – simplifying LIFE for millions around the world.
